Art duo assume vivid astro focus (avaf), aka Eli Sudbrack (Rio de Janeiro, 1968) and Christophe Hamaide-Pierson (Paris, 1973), recognizes disco as a pervasive cultural export that affected artistic practice and influenced pop culture across the hemisphere from North to South. Based on ángeles veloces arcanos fugaces – the installation created for the Faena Art Center Buenos Aires to mark the 10th anniversary of the first hotel in 2014 – the artists reimagined the roller-disco experience for our beach in Miami. Local and international DJs kept the roller disco in motion throughout the first week of December, with revelers getting into their groove beneath the stars. This immersive and participatory work paid homage to the disco era and created a space for social interaction. Having been so well received by the diverse publics in both Buenos Aires and Miami, angeles veloces arcanos fugaces is to become the main touchstone for the Experimental Communities program hosted at Faena Forum and will be a recurrent installation at the Faena Art Center Buenos Aires. avaf have previously exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Casa Triângulo, São Paulo; The Suzanne Geiss Company, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami; and at Tate, Liverpool. They collaborated with Lady Gaga for GAGA’S WORKSHOP at Barneys, New York, and launched the online project ‘comboworks’ for PBS’s Art21 series
