Walking South

Mural covering long wall in Faena Art Miami
Faena Art - Buenos Aires

Curator: Ximena Caminos

For creating the exhibition Walking South, Franz Ackermann travelled to Buenos Aires where he photographed the capital’s highlights to create a new ‘mental map’ of the city. The German artist worked for months to compile a location specific mural, which consisted of 25 panels of painted wood and was assembled on site at the Faena Art Center. The piece combined the factual precision of traditional street maps with the artist’s own interpretation of the local environment. A far cry from typical topography, its punch-drunk colors and billboard-like proportions confronted the viewer with a kaleidoscopic perspective.
